Brookline School Committee Candidate: Aylit Schultz

I’m running for School Committee because Brookline needs leaders who can govern effectively during a complex moment. Brookline has seen significant leadership turnover – three high-level administrators last year and seven different superintendents over the last ten years. Now more than ever, our town needs talented School Committee members who can manage tight budgets, support sound stewardship, and keep academic excellence at the center of decision-making.

My background gives me a combination of skills and experience needed to meet this moment:

• I bring real-world budget proficiency, refined in volunteer governance of local nonprofits and as Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, Founder, CEO, consultant, and advisor to over a dozen digital health startups and small companies.
• Years of guiding organizations through lean times have given me a unique ability to turn constraint into clarity and opportunity.
• My 20-year practice as a physician and medical educator has honed my evidence-based decision-making skills.
• I bring an unmatched ability to find common ground and build consensus: last year, in my Town Meeting election, I earned the endorsements of Brookline PAX, Brookline for Responsible Government, Brookline By Design, and Brookline For Everyone.
• As a parent of children with special needs, I am sensitive and empathetic to children’s unique educational journeys.
• I bring a collaborative, steady approach that values listening and transparency.

School Committee service is about stewardship: setting clear priorities, asking the right questions, and ensuring all decisions advance student learning and long-term sustainability. I believe my background and skills uniquely position me to contribute meaningfully to that work, and to help guide Brookline’s education system through this period with care, clarity, and purpose.
